A rare find, this nineteenth century French Louis Philippe period fireman's helmet was one of the very first models introduced in France. This black metal helmet features a bronze crest, trim, and chin straps reminiscent of a Roman style helmet. The crest of the helmet is detailed with ribs and has a classic exploding grenade insignia at the front. A brass plaque at the front displays two crossed axes over a fire and is flanked with the words Sapeurs Pompiers Beaudean, or the Firemen of the town of Beaudean in the Pyrenees region of France. An exceptional piece from the historic era of the July Monarchy when Louis Philippe came to power in France, circa 1830.
