The unpacking continues

A glimpse of the back of the container is like seeing light at the end of the tunnel.

Those French tables are sturdy...

A beautiful "lit bateau" or sleigh daybed comes off the container.

We've unloaded the container....now it's time to unpack all those boxes.

The Container Just Arrived!!!

Forty feet of antiques waiting to be unpacked! After combing the countryside of France for three weeks hunting for these unique finds, we're always amazed to finally see it all in one place almost 5000 miles...

Other finds of the day include…

A pair of 19th century painted Directoire bergeres

Two 19th century bronze repousse drapery valences

So to celebrate the day, we had... View full article →

France's Largest Port City

The last few days we’ve really been chasing after antiques all over the Northwestern part of France. We spent a day in Le Havre, France’s largest port city, where many containers (including ours) depart for other parts of the world. We drove into Paris for a day to meet with an “antiquaire” we’ve known for over 10 years. Finally, we settled down in Rouen, a large city where Joan of Arc was burned... View full article →

Living in the 15th Century

One of the most wonderful things about our trips to France is the people we meet. We have just spent three excellent days in a bed and breakfast in le Calvados. The night we arrived we were tired, cold, and cranky, but Francoise and Herve were waiting for us with a fire blazing in a stone fireplace big enough to stand in. We felt like we had come home. As Francoise led us to our rooms up a winding...

The Reward System

We’ve moved to a subregion of Normandy called Calvados, where a strong apple brandy by the same name is made. This weekend was packed with appointments – about twelve different stops in two days.
