Medieval Musings

We did a bit of shopping this morning and found this stunning Louis-Philippe book matched walnut chest, c. 1830.

Then we visited the Chateau de Fougeres, the largest medieval castle in Europe.  We are in Brittany now and are learning much about the history of Brittany and their constant battles with the English and the French as they sought to maintain their independence.  Brittanyfinally became an...

Fête en Bretagne

We ran across a Brittany fete (party) in the village of Vitre.

Harrison seemed less interested in the dancers for some reason.

Plein Air Painters of the Ozarks at French Metro Antiques

The Plein Air Painters of the Ozarks were at French Metro Antiques this morning painting in the garden.  A dozen painters were sprinkled around the building, some painting a still life we had set up with antique objects from the shop, others capturing the tulips.  Their works will be displayed in our shop on May 6 during First Thursday Art Walk in Fayetteville.

Prayer Chair

We just finished cleaning, waxing, and reupholstering this hand carved ash prayer chair we brought back on our most recent shipment from France.  These kneelers were traditionally given to young girls at their first communion for them to say their prayers at night.  See more photos at http://www.frenchmetro.com/gallery/furnishings/chairs/10A104.html

Off to France Once Again!

"It's my turn!"  That's Terry talking.  Alexander and I had a momentous January trip to France this year, but it's time for our summer trip.  Alexander is staying behind at the shop, so let us know if you have any special requests while we are on the hunt.

I don't think we can top meeting the President of France, but Terry and I, along with our youngest kids Harrison and Camille, have a lot of... View full article →

POP the Cork!

What a fabulous way to spend our first full day in France!  A VIP tour of the Taittinger Champagne House in Reims, graciously arranged by one of our clients who works for Taittinger in New York.

Our tour included a long walk through the Gallo-Roman caves where the champagne is stored.

And views of the many vaults--this one with 72, 212, bottles.

Our tour ended in a private salon where we shared a... View full article →
